blackra1n Download
BlackRa1n is a iphone jailbreak tool written by GeoHot. It can jailbreak OS 3.1 and 3.1.2 iPhone as well as iPod Touch 3G and supports Windows and Mac.It does not unlock the iPhone. Jailbreaking allows you to add unsigned code and access files that Apples would not allow you to. Jailbreaking requires the iPhone firmware to be changed as to allow code that are unsigned to gain access to files. There are many applications that users want today such as free tethering that is not approved by Apple. Although an iPhone technically belongs to you which means you should be able to do whatever you want with it, jailbreaking is considered by Apple to be illegal.

blackra1n Problems
Some users have reported that blackra1n is not working and you should be able to restore your iPhone to its factory settings if that is the case. Using blackra1n problems (besides potentailly legal issues) includes having a blank sceen and blackra1n not starting after being put in recovery. A number of users have reported their iPhone or iPod Touch being stuck in recovery mode after rebooting.

blackra1n Tutorial
Step 1: Download and install the latest version of iTunes (you should probably have that as a iPhone user)

Step 2: Download blackra1n for Mac or Windows.

Step 3: Connect your iPhone to your computer.

Step 4: Run blackra1n app that you have download and run it under Windows XP Compatibility in Windows 7 or Vista to avoid any problems.

Step 5: Click on "make it ra1n"

Step 6: Phone will then reboot automatically and should have blackra1m installed as one of its apps.

Run the blackra1n app inthe phone and choose the packages that you want to install.

Reboot your iPhone and you should be there.
 

K I just got a new iPhone, presumably with the new boot codes in it. And now when I run blackra1n, it goes into safe mode, I see Geohot, then it tells me to connect to iTunes and stays there until I dismiss the message in iTunes that says "i Tunes has found an iPhone in recovery mode, you must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes" and I never get anywhere, i have n choice but to restore the phone, and Blackra1n isn't there obviously. It was easy when I did it the first time, so why all these problems now???

I've been trying to unlock my 3G iPhone for days with no luck. I've tried everything but nothing seems to work. It still says that my card is locked. My version is 3.1.2 (7D11), Model starts with MB and my firmware is 05.11.07. I installed blackra1n, it runs, for a minute itunes uSB icon shows up and then immediately it goes to blackra1n logo. I installed sn0w, it runs and then when it comes to post install log for snow, it waits. I shut down application i start again, this time successfully. Then it starts searching for the network and I get a message: SIM locked. I've tried everything including saving blackra1n on my root C folder and option with pressing power and home button. That did not work either. I even restored my software to factory settings couple of times and tried it again with no luck. I honestly don't know what else to try and I don't understand why is this not working when it worked for so many people with same framework & version. I would appreciate any kind of help because I am so close to throwing this iPhone away. I am that frustrated.

Antoine, I had the same problem, just exit out of blackra1n then open it again and click make it rain again, and when it reboots it will be yours and not in recovery mode

I have downloaded blackra1n before but when I got my new iphone (3.1.3) Software Version and try to download for windows and hit "run", it says "This application has failed to start because ASL.dll was not found."
Any ideas on how to fix it?
