Adopt a Sad Wild Farmville Turkey and Baby Turkey

 

This is the latest one. Trust Zynga to come out with this. It is going to be Thanksgiving  in the US in a couple of week. What best to add to the collection of Farmville animals than a baby turkey. But apparently, a lonely Sad Wild Turkey is caught roaming in Farmville. So, make sure you adopt it and pardon it so it does not end up on your kitchen table.

Also, you can buy a baby turkey for about 80 Farmville coins and should be able to harvest in 3 days. I guess it becomes a big turkey then.Too early to tell. But great animal for Thanksgiving!

Has anyone adopted a Farmville Turtle? Heard from friends that a turtle is the latest addition for animal on Farmville for adoption and could be caught roaming around.

I have adopted other animals such as the Pink Cow and have heard of other animals on Farmville up for adoption including the Black Sheep, Brown Cow and Ugly Duckling. This is one of the "Viral feature" for Farmville since when an animal wanders into your farm, you can choose to help it or ignore it. When you help the animal, it will post to your Facebook wall to list the animal up for adoption by your friends. I have not seen the Farmville Turtle up for adoption.If anyone seen it, give me a shout.

Farmville Crop Fertilizer and Whisperer Achievement

 

Under the achievements section, there is a Yellow Crop Whisperer ribbon where the way to achieve it is to fertilize 100 neighbor crops. In order to get ther fertilizer, you will need to help complete a friend mission by pulling weeds, chasing racoons, etc. You will be rewarded with five bags of fertilizer at a time, but it seems like it is a random process and there are no guarantees there. Farmville may be trying to promote all of these to promote friendliness and a sense of goodwill within the player community and also to keep the game fun and exciting. The fertilizer gifts can only be used on a neighbors crop instead of your own. The reward at the end there is the Crop Whisperer ribbon. The reward for the person receiving the help is obviously the fact that the beneficiary will receive extra coins and experience points.

How can you tell a Farmville fertilized crop? A fertilized crop will look bigger than the normal crops and also a fertilized crop will sparkle because of the Farmville fertilizer. This crop whisperer achievement was introduced on Oct 15 and it is unclear if only randomly selected users mean people who has been selected for this feature for testing as some users are complaining that they have not been able to receive this fertilizer. I guess this is really for promoting neighbour friendliness and no reason to cheat your way out of this since the only thing you gain is the Farmville Crop Whisper Achievement. If you find Farmville fertilize and see sparkling larger looking crop, do not be worried as it means that the crops have been fertilized.

Term Life Insurance

 

First,let us start with what life insurance means. Life insurance basically insures your life or really it is about what to do when you die. Specifically, it should cover as much as your loss income since when you die, you can no longer generate income through working. However, your assets do remain intact and therefore, there is no need to really think about covering that.

So, what is term life insurance?.
As the "term" suggests, term life insurance covers only for a specific term before the policy expires. It is basically a temporary insurance that allows you to cover up to a certain critical life event such as college, retirement or children who are grown up enough to work. Term life insurance is different from permanent insurance since permanent insurance does not expire until you stop paying for your policy. The key difference is that term life insurance also do not pay you any benefits once the term life policy expires (though this may vary based on companies), whereas a permanent insurance puts a portion of your premium into an investment vehicle which can then be paid out depending on how well the investment vehicle performs over time. This is really about protecting your loved ones. Hopefully, nothing happens to you, but when something does, at least your children and spouse are not left to deal with your debts, funeral costs, etc. Therefore, a life insurance policy allows you to use the payout from a death to pay off credit card and debts since you can no longer generate the income to help the household. Before that, it is important to think of the development of the web business model into 3 key categories.

Web 1.0 business model
This is essentially making money from e-commerce and banner advertising. It works. Big companies such as Yahoo, Ebay and Amazon  are built through this model. Essentially, the web 1.0 model  are considered to be low margins compared to other web business model.

Web 2.0 business model
This is about user generated content and getting users to contribute articles for free and then generating advertising through traffic coming to the site. The Web 2.0 business model is essentially piggy backing on the search economy and Google is the greatest benefactor of this business model as they are one of the largest source of advertising inventory and get a cut from publishers for it. However, they do help eliminate the need for any small businesses to hire sales force and engage with advertisers.

Web 3.0 business model
This business model is based on virtual goods and considered a high margin business. Virtual goods is like a physical good except that the manufacturing of virtual goods are essentially zero in cost after a one time design cost.

So, what does this mean for you in terms of trying to make money online?

Make money through ecommerce
If you think you have a product that is unique or you have some arbitrage advanteges in terms of getting a cost advantage in a product sold, then this online business could be for you. I have known people who make great income purchasing branded goods from factory outlets and then reselling them on Ebay or other ecommerce aggregators. In this case, they are playing on the arbitrage of access where buyers may not have access to the kind of goods in their state or city. For example, someone who is in middle America may not have a branded store nearby and therefore would rather buy online than drive hours away. If you can get some unique products that no one else have or can easily get, you can also make a decent income. The problem with ecommerce is that you need to invest money to purchase the initial inventory. However, you can start small and with little capital, buy a limited supply of stock. Then, find out if you can actually make money selling it online. When you can, then you might want to invest more money in acquiring more stocks to buy. When you are starting, it is better to go with a large ecommerce aggregator or store versus trying to set up your own website. The larger websites already have traffic and people searching for products to buy and are generally less expensive to set up and have all the necessary support. Make money by witing online
They always say content is kind. By setting up your own blog or writing on site that have advertising revenue share, you can also generate a decent income. To give you a sense of the numbers, your site will need to generate a few hundred thousand pageviews before you can make money online that is meaningful. For the most part, you should only expect about $3-$7 RPM unless you are some large publisher or focus niche sites that may be able to command better rates. Having said that, it may also be one of the least costly way of doing it since there are many free online blogging tools that allows you to put advertising on your blog. The only cost there is your time.

Make money selling virtual goods
If you are a great designer or artist, selling virtual goods may be your gig to make money online.  The key is trying to find the right platform to do it and many have done it on MySpace, Facebook, Second Life, etc. You need to be designing for a platform that has tons of traffic since the virtual economy would already be quite vibrant. If you can sell virtual goods, the margin can be quite high and very profitable form a return on investment on your time.

Finally, there is really no free lunch. The beauty of making money online is that the startup cost is low compared to setting up your restaurant, buying franchises, etc. However, it does not mean it is easy to make money online. The biggest cost will be your time and if this is something you are doing on the side and making extra income, then it is great.

Here are some startup tips for you to make money:

1)  Go to a blogging tool such as Blogger.com and start writing. Write as often as you can and as much as you can. Track the number of pageviews you get a few months later. The chances are that unless you write great articles that people are linking to you, you will not make a lot of money as you will not generate enough page views to make it meaningful.

2) Go to Ebay and look around for a branded product that seem to be quite demanded based on the number of bids on a product and the supply. You want to find products that are in high demand but at low supply. Then, get that from a factory outlet at low cost. Put it up online and see if you can sell it and make a profit.

FarmVille is another popular game that is developed by the same publisher: Zynga. As far as I know, it is only available on Facebook, but would not be surprise that Zynga would be providing one for iPhone as well given the Mafia Wars popularity there (see Mafia Wars Cheats). Basically, Farmville lets you manage your own farm by rearing animals and growing vegetables and fruits. The two key objective is to build experience points so you can move ahead and to make money so you can build a better farm. FarmVille cheats codes exist online though most of them does not work. Some are definitely just cheats whereas others are strategies to make sure you level up faster and make money. There are also guide books on Farmville that you can buy. Otherwise, here is a number of them that you can try.

If you are looking for cheat codes here, good luck! We have not been able to find any and mostly what is out there are strategies to manage your farm better though there is always the good old method of changing the variable in your computer memory.

For the advance user who knows a thing or two about computers, memories, assembly code, etc, you can download the Cheat Engine. It is basically an open source tool that lets you modify games variables by scanning for variables within the game and allowing you to change stuff. It is not something that anyone should try. Also, depending on how the game is constructed, you may not be able to make a permanent change. For example, most of the stuff for FarmVille is stored on the servers and Cheat Engine changes the variables on the client computer. However, depending on how synchronization works, it can turn out that your FarmVille cheats go away when you close the browser.

This is for the advance user who knows how to do this sort of stuff. I would not recommend the amateur to do this as this requires you to have some fair knowledge of memory programming and hacking. Use Cheat Engine to modify the speed.

FarmVille Cheats- The Gift that keeps on Giving
Try this though it may not work on every browser. Create an additional account (not your main one) which we call the giver. Using the giver account, right click on the "Gift" tab and then click on Open In New Browser. Open as many of this as you want. The, go to each open tab which essentially has the same screen and select the gifts you want. Please make sure you do that for each tab without confirming the selection. Then, go to each tab again and select your main account as the account to receive the gift. Again, the key is not to confirm anything. Once you are done,  you can then click confirm and your main account should receive these gifts. Since gifts=money at some point, you would have created a way to earn unlimited amount of money though it is probably not as fast as doing it the honest way of planting and harvesting crops.


FarmVille cheats in getting coins
This is not really a cheat but The trick is really knowing which tree and animals give you the best bang for the buck. It is usually good to just sell the tree once they have gone through one harvest. This is because the initial gifts does not cost any coin, but then it later takes up too much space and so selling them immediately allows you to make some coins on 0 cost and then save the time since it takes some time for the next harvest. Also, you get the most coins when you plant versus rearing animals. Just like stock investing, you really want to diversity as the plants takes different amount of time to grow and harvest. By planting several crops, it allows you to have almost a constant supply of fresh crops ready for harvest so you are not just waiting around for crops to grow.

You should also know that crops just grow whether you are in front of the computer or not. So, do know the timing of each crop as you need to be able to harvest them within hours or they will start rotting and you do not want to waste time clearing rotting crops.

Strawberries are the cheapest and grows in about 4 hours. So, you may want to start your morning sowing some strawberry seeds and then log in 4 hours later to harvest it. This is the crop you get started with when you start playing FarmVille, but it is not necessarily the best crop to plant since they can spoil very quickly which means you would have wasted all your money trying to plant the crop.

FarmVille cheats in a farm on auto pilot mode
If you do not have much time to work on a farm, yet want a stable cash flow, you may want to make decisions on the kind of tree you want to plant. Fruit trees last longer and allows you to sell the fruits for money. The problem is that they take up space, are expensive to buy and the fruits does not sell for a lot of money. In other words, your return on investment is not the best here. However, if you do not have time anyway, this may be the best for you. Otherwise, you can also invest in animals where you can get milk from the cows, eggs from the duck, etc and make some small cash flow with it. Unlike crops which is time critical, food from the animals never really spoil and so you are not tied to returning to your computer to try to manage it.

So, most of the Farmville cheats you find online are really not cheats, but just smarters ways to make more money and level up in experience points. Using the Cheat Engine is probably your best bet to quickly change a number in memory. Otherwise,there are also Farmville guide books on that you can buy if you want to learn the strategies and techniques.

Great American Photo Contest Scam

 

Depends on how you feel about it. The Great American Photo Contest allows you to upload your baby picture and then vote for it with the top prize being $2,500 every month. Although, the whole site is free, there are places where they are truly trying to collect your email address for who knows what reason. For example, if  you want to browse the baby photos there, you are presented with a screen that requires you to enter in your email and other information so that you can respond to sponsors. Having said that, they do only show once and so it you click out and click back in again, you can see the baby photos without having to submit any information.

It also depends on whether you agree with their business model. It has been said that they only award the prize when there are more than 2,500 babies photos being submitted. So, that means they really "pay" about $1 per photo submitted or less. They can make that money back from advertisers and lead generationis such as potentially selling email addresses. They can also have you pay for a book they publish with all the photos in it.

So, I don't think it is a scam in the sense that they don't pay out the money. There is probably nothing false in what they are trying to claim. However, if you think that collecting email address and information and then profiting from it is a scam, then my advice is not to give your information up or participate in the site. I guess they are offering you a chance to win $2,500 by sacrificing away some privacy. But again, lots of contest by legitimate big name companies do that too.

Pole Dancer Doll

 

Who are toy manufacturers targeting when they decided to manufacture the Pole Dancer Doll? Is it the kids who has an aspiration to become a pole dancer or sexually perverted people who may find it "interesting" with such a toy. Then again, I cannot imagine which parent in the world will go buy a pole dancer doll for their kid. Are they going to say "Hi daughter, here is a pole dancer doll, play with it and tell me what you learn?" So, if the parents wont buy and the kids shouldnt be buying, then the manufacturers of such a doll probably is not targeting the toy market. It should probably be found in the "other" type of toy store since pole dancing is usually sexually suggestive.

Searching through Amazon, I actually found several pole dancer dolls. One has the descript.ion as follows:

Calcium rich foods and requirements for children

 

When your child does not like milk, it is important to supplement their diet with rich sources of calcium. Calcium is important for the growth of bone and maintenance. It is an element that is essential for many of the the body function from blood clotting, nerve control and blood pressure regulation. It is important to keep calcium intake as it builds up bone mass and that bone mass will continue to about age twenty nine at which point it stops. It is also important to take calcium with lots of Vitamin D as the latter helps the body to absoreb the calcium.

The daily intake and requirement depends on age and generally increases when we are older. For children less than 6 months, the daily intake is about 210mg. For children between 6-12 months, the daily intake is 270mg and for a toddler, it is between 500mg-800mg.

Food with High Calcium Content (>250mg)
Food with the highest of calcium content are milk, swiss cheese and yogurts. 3 ounce of sardines with bones also contains more than 250mg though it may not be suitable for children. If you child does not like milk, you may want to try with a calcium fortified orange juice which can contain more than 250 mg.

Food with moderate Calcium Content (150-249mg)
Most cheeses except cottage cheese (which is lower in calcium content), raw collards, rhubarb, waffle and marcaroni and cheese also contain moderate levels of calcium.

Food with low calcium content (75mg-149mg)
Shirmp, brocolli, oysters, spaghetti, meatballs, tomato sauce and dark leafy vegetables an contain some calcium.

When you have a child who does not want to drink milk, your best bet is to try milk flavored with chocolate or strawberry. They are also usually fortified with vitamin D which helps in the calcium aborption. If they take it, then just make sure they drink their regular amount of milk and your problem is solved.. If they still do not take milk, try giving them yogurt which can have more >250mg of calcium. Otherwise, orange juice fortified with calcium is your next bet and then add the other food with calcium sources.

Distance from earth to moon

 

It is more accurate to consider the average distance since at any point of time of the moon's orbit to earth, the distance can vary. The official distance is about 238,857 miles which is equivalent to 384,403 km which is the distance quoted by NASA. This distance is the distance measured from the center of the Earth to the center of the moon.  This distance is also about 15 billion inches and the moon is actually drifting further from the Earth due to slowing of Earth's own rotation about its axis. The way the moon's distance is measured is by shooting a laser from the Earth towards the moon. Reflectors are positioned so that we can measured the reflection of the beam back to Earth. Since we know the velocity of light, we can effectively measure the distance based on the time it takes for the reflection to be received. This time is approximately 2.6 seconds.

The moon orbits around the Earth in about 27.3 days.

3) The distance is expected to increase as the moon drifts further in its orbit fromm the Earth.

Chinese Food

 

Chinese food is ubiquitous and can be found all over the world and as far as Western Europe, South Africa and the Amreicas. Even Chinese food has its own different variety with mainly eight different regions that are known for their own distinct taste and style. Restaurant goers are mostly familiar with Cantonese, Szechuan (spicy), Shandong and Huaiyang. Cantonese food are mostly dominating of the dim sum culture.

Szechuan and Hunan food are known to be really spicy. Rice is also an essential part of most Chinese cuisine and in different regional cultures, soup are also paired with the meal though in some culture, soup are drink last while others, the soup will come first. The stir fry technique with lots of oil are usually practice. Meat and vegetable are thrown into a wok whch is a deeper version of a sauce pan and heated up to a high temperature under fire. In Chinese restaurants, you can sometimes see the chef tossing the vegetables and meat up in the air so as to turn them around to provide an even cooking. In some cases, they let the oil catch some fire to increase the temperature in the wok even more.

Chinese delicacies can sometimes involve exotic meat such as dog meat, civet cat (known to have caused the spread of SARs), snake, bear paws, etc. This are usually eaten because of the myth of the healing properties.

Chinese have really taken this cuisine and spread it round the world. For example, Vancouver is well known for its Chinese food because of the large immigration of chefs from Hong Kong to the city. Sometimes, they are even supposedly better than the restaurants in China and Hong Kong itself.

Great White Hope

 

First time I heard about the phrase "Great White Hope". Sounds like a racist term and it is. The Great White Hope originated as a 1967 play about the search for a white American to defeat and African American  as the 1908 world heavy weight champion. This eventually happen when Jim Jeffries defeated Jack Johnson who is an African America.

Causes of Hives

 

Hives are one of the most annoying condition that can sometimes be persistent for a person. There are many reasons for the causes of hives. Primarily, hives is due to the body's reaction to something which then causes a release of histamine causing the skin to be raised and reddish. Unfortunately, hives is very hard to solve. Some people think that detergent is the culprit and a change would help,but rarely does. Some people think that minerals in the water causes that as well, but usually the trigger has to be protein based and minerals should not be the culprit.

Typically, hives can be caused by the following:

Allergies: Allergies to food, dust, chemicals and medication can sometimes cause the outbreak of hives though these should be quite quickly started from the initial exposure to these agents. The reaction to food usually takes a much faster time than the allergic reaction to medication.

Stress: Surprisingly, stress can cause the body to react in weird ways. Sometimes, the person may not necessarily feel any stress though they are. Hives can be an indication that you need relaxation and sleep.

Viral infection: This typically occurs in children when there is a viral infection.

Illness: Hives may also precede the onset of certain illness such as thyroid illness, kidney and liver problems. An autoimmune disease can also cause chronic hives as the immune system starts attacking healthy cells of the body. When hives does not disappear after six weeks and allergies and stress are ruled out, it is quite critical to go for a blood test to rule out any of the disease that may trigger a hive reaction.

Having listed the above, the fact is that hives is very hard to diagnose. To these days, doctors may not necessarily be able to trace the root cause of your hive. A blood test helps to find diseases that potentially cause hives but it is sometimes very hard to find. Hives outbreak can sometimes follow your cortisol cycle. Cortisol is the primary hormone that determines and directs your immune system. Cortisol levels peak as the sun rises and then lowers as it set reaching it lowest point typically around 3am. This is also when the immune cells become more active and your hives also become worse in the early morning. Also, woman are twice as likely than man to get hives primarily because of the differences in the endocrine system. So, if you ask yourself why do you keep breaking out with hives, it may be time to see the doctor if this happens for too long especially after six weeks.

Recently, I needed to rekey a door lock. The easiest way is obviously to pay a locksmith to come to your place to rekey the lock. You have to pay about $50 for the locksmith to come and depending on the number of doors, it will come up to about a hundred over dollar. However, the point of rekeying is also so that no one else knows the combination and having a locksmith come to your home would not really work. So, the best way to do this is to take out the door lock youself. Then, take the lock over to the locksmith and have them rekey it. In this way, they would not know where you live and if possible, just pay by cash so no other information is given away.

So, first you need to know how to disassemble a lock. They are fairly straight forward as you can see the screws. You will need a screwdriver and potentially a pin like object. The best way to do this is watch this video understanding that different locks and different brands may have different ways to install and remove.  To remove the lock, just follow the steps in reverse.

Most of the screws on the lock are pretty self explanatory, just start unscrewing them with a screw driver. However, some requires you to poke a pin link object into a very small hole (needle size) to release some catch in order to remove the door knob. You can use a nail or some small sharp object. Otherwise, go to a store and buy a re-keying kit. Once, you have diassemble the lock, you can bring it to the locksmith. However, if you are interested in rekeying yourself, here is a video to watch.
