The Google Pedometer or walking map is for users who wants to keep track of how long they take to walk or run. Generally, it will help you calculate among many other things your calories burned if you enter your personal statistics like your height and your weight. There are actually several of them available though some have annoying ads that pop up right in front of the map making it very hard to use.
FAVORITE: The GMap Google Pedometer
My favorite is the Google Pedometer found here as it is wide screen, has the most features and allow for calculating calories burnt. you can find it here: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/
LITTLE KNOWN SECRET: Google Pedometer
At the end of the day, here is a little known secret for using Google Maps itself as a pedometer. Just like getting any direction, you should enter the starting destination and ending destination. Once, Google Maps plot a route, you can use your mouse to hover over any part of the connecting route. You should see a circle with a black border with a message "Drag to change route". By dragging that circle around, you will be able to experiment with the different route changes and actually be able to plot your route as well. The changes will allow you to find the actual distance from point A to point B with your own configured route. The downside of this Google Pedometer is that it cannot calculate the calories burned and does not take into consideration of elevation effects to your time and calories. http://maps.google.com
SIMPLE: Pedometer at Trails
There are quite a number of them that allows you to do this. The one at Trails.com is simple and straightforward, but does not have the fancy features. However, it does not have ads popping all over the place and you could actually plot your miles. However, besides trackinig your total distance, it seems quite limited. http://www.trails.com/googlemap.aspx
Hmmmm: Pedometer at Map My Run
I tried using MapMyRun, but the ads were popping up all over the place and it just was not cutting it for me as I found it annoying and quite almost unusable. The official ones seems to be the GMap Pedometer since it does not try to shove an ad right in front of you. It also plots the route nicely and neatly and follow the curve quite well.
